From the Clip Is YouTube Killing Video Originality? posted by Tyme:
The promise of web video was that cheap cameras, easy editing software and free online distribution would open up new vistas of creativity. The Hollywood gatekeepers would be tossed out and the masses would finally get to express themselves.
So what happened? Because it seems like we’re just seeing the same things, over and over.
After giving this some thought I come to realize that whenever anything hits the mainstream you are bound to see duplicates. When blogging became big you had to wonder if the publishing industry was going to take a hit or news media because if you looked in the same places you would always see the same writeups. Neither have suffered and originality hasn't suffered either.
As with video, the people that stand above the rest are pushing the limits and also know that originality is what gets them there. Sure you will see more and more of the same as people jump on ship, but that is because they are new. How many times do you jump into something new and do something completely original? It only makes sense to start off with some duplicating until you find your own "voice" and understand what you are working with.
