Just wondering if people get bored with long anime series like Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Yugioh or Fushigi Yuugi? I was thinking that about One Piece or even Detective Conan, where there is over 200+ episodes.

Also think Naruto and Bleach.
Yeah I get bored with them especially if I stop watching them for a while. They are long because they drag on a simple scene for far too long.
Some though aren't that bad. Full Metal Alchemist is about 51 episodes. You're Under Arrest has 51 and 26 episodes respectively for two seasons. Hikaru no Go goes for about 74 episode and Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin) goes for about just over 100 episodes.
They aren't all that bad. Just don't overdo the scene lengths.

I only get bored with them if they aren't very good...in which case even shorter series can quickly get dull.

Depends.
If they're long just to drag out the series and up profits, then yes... I get bored. Take Naruto, it IS drug out, but up till about episode 100 I was transfixed. As soon as they went into filler I COMPLETLY lost interest. If it hadn't been for friends hyping it up I probably wouldn't have even come back for Shippuden. The filler was ridiculous and exploitative. They could have simply ended the first series, and waited a year or two before starting the next, but no, cash cow, milk it.
Fushigi Yugi I loved. Yakitate Japan (69 episodes) I've loved.
I hate almost everything Rumiko Takahashi has ever done. I like the premises, I like the characters, I like the various art stylings, but she drags them on forever and never gets to the point or an end. I'll make an exception of Maison Ikkoku.

Yeah, I'm watching the end of the first series of Naruto right now, boy I hate filler. But I caught a newer episode and I pretty excited.

Yes.
Anime should fit into your normal 13 or 26 season run. Instead of a second season, they can always have a sequel.

I am generally not a person who can withstand long series unless they are really good, like Saiunkoku Monogatari that kept me interested every single episode up to episode 39 (and happily waiting for the second season).
On the whole though, it's really a very negative bag of tricks. Naruto turned out pretty nasty after the later episodes that turned out to be filler, Bleach made me lose interest with the long arc. Don't get me started with inuyasha and one piece. Anime with long episodes generally tend to go downhill big time.

It depends upon the story and how it goes along as the series progresses. I don't mind watching all 200+ episodes if the story is good and plot is well developed.

I guess the thing is that most series do not usually have a strong coherent plot all the way, and development tends to be a bit problematic for anything above 100. Just look at some of the series that went beyond 100 episodes, and they definitely have very down fillers.

no, for me .. although that's depend on the storyline itself for example i got bored watching naruto (no offense to naruto fans) because of the filler (after the battle against sasuke)

You know, I thought of an exception to this rule, for me.
Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Now here's a series that is long (52 episodes I think.) It's based off of a 5 volume manga... that's quite a bit of fluff to get to 52! And there is a lot of airtime wasted. The episodes were generally formulaic: intro, character development, introduce conflict, duel, further development/resolution. Not only that, but the intro to the duel scene is a couple minutes long, and the animation sequence is almost exactly the same throughout the series. But somehow it worked ok. I think the overarcing plot, excellent music, and unique character/backdrop designs combined with a bit of mystery and magic helped make the series successful and enjoyable.
It's by no means my favourite, but just a case where a long series that did have fluff didn't bore me to death.

well i do agree on fillers.. the do suck especially naruto's.. but now the new arc started and since i read the manga its going to get really good again.. One piece is also a great series the fillers aren't that long but there was this one arc before the water 7 arc that i couldn't stand something to do with a pirate swapping game.. But it all comes down to if the story line is interesting enough to keep you into it.. Like bleach there filler of the bounto(sp?) was interesting enough to keep me watching the series till the new arc started. But like a series of inu yasha which i loved at first but then i got bored of it do to the story line

One Piece with the Davy Fights Back. I don't believe that was a filler as it was part of the manga. Fillers are okay as long as it shows some great character development... but if the fight scenes go on too long.. forget it..

I haven't watched any long series in years...I prefer 13 to 26 episodes per series, with an occasional 'season 2'.
The longest series I can think of that I'll be watching soon would be Blood+, which has 52 episodes.

I generally tend to stay away from long animes. The one show that's on my watch list is only gong to be 12 episode longs. Inuyasha was an exception but filler arcs really stink.
It all depends. A show like Scrubs can sustain itself quite well without having quality control issues while a show like Naruto or One Piece can completely go down the tubes.

Doraemon. Now there was a long anime...then again, it's a collection of short clips rather than an actual long one. It didn't make it pointless when everything was resolved in 10 minutes.

The trend these days is to publish animation with a smaller number of episodes in good quality. The problem I had watching the Dragon Ball series was that they tend to repeat and repeat cells. Sailor Moon also did that, although I was an amused little girl at that time and enjoyed watching the transformations.
