No faith in iTunes: Trinity Blood

Perhaps I should have known that Anime fans can be a little over the top. Perhaps I should have remembered that your typical high school Anime fanboy has incredibly bad taste. There were a lot of things I should have done, but what I did instead turned out to be a terrible mistake:
Consult the iTunes customer reviews.
Now, on a site like NewEgg, a consumer friendly computer hardware store, the customer base leans towards technically inclined, and the reviews of the products reflect this. When I was deciding on purchasing Trinity Blood, I found that customer reviews on iTunes are a different story. iTunes seems to bring out the brain dead, with quotes such as:
Trinity Blood is great. Original Plot, Characters, everything. Ofcourse[sic] the vampire thing is new to anime but how thye[sic] made the story and the design and action is great.
Emphasis added
If you haven't seen Trinity Blood, let me spare you the plot with this summary based in mathematics:
Trinity Blood = Hellsing + Trigun + the suck - anything original
The 10 second version
I bought Trinity Blood on iTunes. 45 out of 50 reviewers gave it 4-5 stars. I thought it was terrible, unoriginal, and an utter waste of potential. I think sane people agree with me. Therefore, there are no sane people on iTunes reviews.
Has anyone else made the same mistake? Is there something I'm missing about Trinity Blood?

If you ask me personally, it looks like you're going to the wrong places for your anime reviews. Like you said Newegg.com and iTunes are probably not the best places to look for anime reviews...
As for Trinity Blood, I've heard that it's entertaining but not at all original.

@Michael: Regarding NewEgg, as I read it, I think he was just referencing another site that lets customers review the products it sells, not getting anime reviews from them =)

Ah gotcha Oli. I do however love newegg.com.

Try animenewsnetwork, or you know, an anime site for reviews of anime.
I haven't watched trinity blood, but I thought hellsing was pretty crappy, and trigun only mildly amsuing, so your formula really doesn't do good things for me, but to each their own, right?

If this is really what you think, then I wouldn't recommend Trinity Blood. Thanks for the web site, we'll see if it does me any good.
It looks like I'll just have to give up on iTunes and order the box sets off Amazon, until they expand their library.

I didn't like the Hellsing anime (but I adore the manga and I heard the remake is going to be closer to the manga).
I liked Trigun, It was pretty good while it lasted. I'm still hoping they'd make Trigun Maximum though.
The only place where I trust anime reviews are places like AnimeNFO. Most of the time, the animes they recommend are ones I like but it depends on the genre as well.

Teej,
it's a good idea. The only company publishing on iTunes so far is Funimation, and while I think it's good they're doing this, their real life media is much higher calibre. They put a lot of effort into the boxes and extras as well.

Ugh yeah Trinity Blood was terrible. Rachel gave it a beating in her review too!
My favorite quote of hers:
"Wow, doesn’t that sound like such an awesome concept? Vampires, the future, the Church, fearsome creatures that eat vampires, beautiful nuns with huge racks, space ships, intrigue, awesome character designs… this series has it all! But does it really? Hell no! There’s absolutely no substantial plot, no character development, no consistency, no pacing, no background, nothing that makes it past the visual aspect of anime."
Regarding the iTunes thing - I don't know if it's because of how reviews are moderated, but I usually don't use them. The best aspect of their reviewing system is the 'customers also liked...' feature!

Don't go to the hardware store for a head of lettuce and the grocery store for a hammer.

Kamigoroshi - Since you didn't like the original Hellsing anime but adore the manga, I highly recommend the new OVAs. The DVDs for Hellsing: Ultimate. Volumes I & II are out in both Japan and North America. Volume III is currently out in Japan. I bet you'll like them!!!
Regarding Trigun Maximum, when I participated in a panel interview with Yasuhiro Nightow (creator of Trigun) at Anime Central this year, he 'let slip' that he's working on a new Trigun anime.

The majority of "vocal" anime viewers on the Internet seem to think Naruto and Bleach are the holy grail of anime... and chances are these "vocal" fans also have iPods and run iTunes so there's your answer.
A simple Google of "Trinity Blood Review" might get you some other opinions; of course they could be positive but chances are if one takes the time to make a anime review site they would have seen lots of anime and won't have their opinion swayed from something like "vampires, cool that's new".
