My favourite anime of recent times have been Dennou Coil and Oh! Edo Rocket...both simply ooze awesomeness and everyone should try them (sorry, I'm feeling too lazy to type out full synopses right now...)

It's a movie not a series, but Tekkon Kinkreet was the best anime I've seen in a very, very long time. Absolutely fantastic. Great story, awesome visuals, amazing voice work, inventive camera angles; an overall amazing anime.

My recent favourites are Denno Coil, Tekkon Kinkreet and Paprika.

Halcyon Realms

Mushishi and Beck are probably the two best anime I'm watching right now. Mushishi leaves me thinking about the stories after I watch them. It's like artistic folk horror fables. Beck is great in how much I can relate to a kid who found out about music and playing the guitar and that whole experience of growing up as a nobody and joining a band and possibly a shot at something more.

As far as pure fun, meaning entertaining without the highbrow credentials, I'm really loving School Rumble. My-Otome has no redeeming features, but I enjoy it so much.

Black Lagoon and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

It's great to watch, it's not on my top 5 list, but it's enjoyable all the same especially of late.
