I'm going to put in my vote for Haibane Renmei. It was hard to get into at first, but after the first three episodes I couldn't stop watching until the end.
I'm also in love with Genshiken. An anime about anime enthusiasts? How can you go wrong.
I'll also put in for Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It was a neat series with a nice twist at the end. Episode twelve's musical sequence was cool too. The sounds of the monsters were quite awesome too.

Hey phoatomdata, I'll have to check out Haibane Renmei out. I think I've heard about it before, and I've heard some good things about it.
First three episodes eh? The first three episodes of Honey and Clover were kind of like that for me.

Michael; Ya. It was somewhere through the third episode where it just clicked and I had to finish it out. The beginning is weird, and it started off seeming kind of child-oriented (at first I thought /all/ of the characters were at most grade school age) but got way better after that. You should definitely check it out.
I'm in the process of grabbing Honey and Clover right now. Hopefully I won't get too hooked and stay up all night watching it!
As an aside, don't you just love how all the Hollywood and big corporate attempts at delivering movie content over the great Internets fail while the rest of us have been distributing working video for quite some time?

You know, I actually wrote a post on this some time ago. Because of the nature of the beast, anime will always be one step ahead of the mainstream.
It's just the way things are.

Ah, Trigun. I haven't seen the anime - but the manga is definitely cool. A pacifist who utterly demolishes everything! Novel!
I just started watching Honey & Clover last night, and it's shaping up to be a great series (what I've seen, you know)! Thanks to those who have contributed in it's favor!

It's amazing how only one person in 62 considers Wolf's Rain one of their favorite Anime. In any case, here's my list (though it's probably incomplete):
Berserk
Wolf's Rain
.hack//SIGN
One Piece
Full Metal Alchemist
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien
Honey & Clover / Honey & Clover II
Chobits

Kimi Ga nozomu Eien is awesome, as well as H&C, good taste Griffith.
Higurashi no Nako Koro Ni is very good as well, if disturbing.

There's one anime which stands as my absolute favourite: Mahou Shoujotai. I fell in love with it the first minute I saw it. Other great ones include Noein, Mushishi, Simoun and Revolutionary Girl Utena.
And about Wolf's Rain, I can understand why it doesn't appear a lot. It's a nice series, though it has some huge flaws.

So Scrivs is pushing this anime business really hard... i wonder why?
noticed the whole bunch of anime site that were accepted to the community in this round.. and then i see this notes thread and I am thinking there is a business motive behind all this anime hoopla...
:) so what is it? are you trying to get anime cmpanies to advertise on 9rules or what?

Out of all recent ones or ongoing ones, then my favourite anime is Bleach, of course :)

i personally enjoyed slice of life series.
Aria, for its beautiful scenery, idyllic sights, likable characters and wonderful relaxing music.
Haibane Renmei, for its symbolism, tragic pain, the story of growing up and the beautiful ending.
Ouran High simply for the laughs.
And lastly,
Serial Experiment Lain, for being the first series that I bought a set of DVDS on, its powerful message, its use of scientific theories and complex structuring in experimentation. Wonderful stuff.
There are so much good anime that it's painful to just mention 4.
