Stand-up comedy

I've been a stand-up comedy junkie for a long time now. Who are you looking for new material from? Any sets/performances you'd recommend?

Yea, Jamie Kennedy. No, seriously.

Chris Rock has his routines DOWN. And Louis CK is awesome in a very truthful way -- it doesn't even feel like he's trying to do stand-up anymore, he's just talking about real stuff that's happening to him and his family. Hopefully he does some more stand-up material instead of saving it all for his HBO sitcom.

Others I gotta mention: Bill Burr, Jim Gaffigan, Dane Cook, Joe Rogan (although I haven't heard a lot of new stuff from him), Russell Peters, Dave Chappelle, and mother fucking Mitch Hedberg.

Eddie Izzard is a great one - gets me in stitches every listen.

I liked watching "Last Comic Standing". The guy whom had some kind of difficulty- physical aliment, could be considered mental aliment (I'm not calling him mentally retarded) on the show really was funny. Don't remember his name though, or even if he's still on the show. But, Margaret Cho comes to mind.

The last Margaret Cho album I tried listening to, I turned off mid-way.

A little too much yelling and not enough actual delivery for me. But that doesn't mean I haven't laughed my ass off to her other stuff -- it was just that one CD (and I can't remember the damn name of it right now).

I don't generally enjoy stand up comedy but Canadian comic Russell Peters' parodies of racial stereotypes are hilarious.

Yeah, he is hilarious. I've only heard 2 sets from him, though. I gotta find some more material!

I iterate Russell Peters and Dave Chappelle. They both have a bunch of stuff up on YouTube.

uhh... reiterate, I mean. Where's the 'edit' button on this thing?

Chris, if you're looking for the full 45 minute of his Comedy Now! performance, you can download it in RealMedia or AVI here.

I'm no expert at this but (like Chris) I sure do (did) appreciate Mitch Hedberg.

If you haven't bought or at least listened to Bobcat Goldthwait's latest album "I don't mean to insult you, but you look like Bobcat Goldthwait" you're really missing out. Never bought a comedy album before this one, it's fantastic.

Of course, Doug Stanhope should stop doing Girls Gone Wild commercials and get back to standup, because he's hilarious (although barely legal co-eds will always beat smoke filled comedy clubs)

And of course, I'm almost offended nobody's named David Cross yet, c'mon people ;)

Demetri Martin. See his MySpace Trendspotting on the Daily Show.

Some of his stand-up is genius as well.

I enjoy the work of David Chappelle, Louis C.K., David Cross, Kevin James, Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, Mitch Hedburg, Ellen, George Carlin, Pablo Fransisco, Jimmy Fallon, Dane Cook and Stephen Lynch

Dylan Moran, bitches. And Bill Bailey.

Bill Bailey, Jack Dee, Ross Noble (My current choice, tends to go off on random tangents of tangents), George Carlin, Billy Connelly.

I'd have to agree with karmatosed, Eddie Izzard is freaking funny as hell. His Dressed to Kill stand up show is great.

I'd like to see some new stuff from him.

A couple of my favorites that haven't been mentioned: Bob Newhart and Lewis Black. Both are masters of delivery.

Yes! Lewis Black is great! And I can't believe nobody has mentioned Brian Regan

Jeremy: ah, Bob Newhart. His TV show was great.

"Hi, I'm Larry, this is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl".

Total comedy for sure!

Russel Peters. Enough Said.

Eddie Izzard

George Carlin

and my all time personal fav... Carlos Mencia.

RightOn, George Carlin... another one I'd have to agree with. Has he actually done anything new recently?

I still love the complaints and grievances show. "Here's just a list of people who aught to be killed". Gets me laughing every time.

That's a tough question to answer.

"That's a tough question to answer" - Scrivs, now that's comedy :)

Lano and Woody retired, that's gotta suck. Now I'm looking entertainment from the Umbilical brothers.

Dane Cook fo sho. That guys is totally hilarious!

Eddie Murphy. I wish he'd stop acting, cuz he sucks at it, and go back to stand up...oh and Chris Rock foooo shoooor.

Rich Hall, Bill Bailey, Jack Dee, Jimmy Carr, George Carlin, Chris Rock... classics. Oh and Eddie Izzard.

Yeah it's all about Eddie Izzard

Eddie Murphy took what Rich Prior did and made it more digestable - I know it's not new but his old stuff is funny as heck.

Chappelle is always funny, Ricky Gervais (but his stand-out is too cringeworthy, hit his podcasts), and Carlin.

George Carlin and Carlos Menenzia
