Has anyone researched this Cloverfield project? The preview for it was played before Transformers, and it was the coolest trailer ever.
I've been looking all over the internet for clues and it seems to be one of the most interesting viral campaigns I've ever come across. Apparently, more information will be released on August 1st, according to clues I linked together.
If you're interested, start here: Cloverfield Trailer
Then go here: Official Site
You'll get hooked. The theories are popping up on the web all over the place.

Yeah I saw the trailer in theaters.
Yeah I had a headache after watching the trailer due to shaky filming.
Yeah I think it's a genius way to cause anticipation.

I hadn't seen this before because I haven't seen Transformers yet but it seems very cool, thanks for posting!

There are speculations that the name will be revealed at ComicCon next Thursday, and that more information will come August 1st. I haven't seen any trailers on TV yet, but I think it will be about 4 months before JJ starts using conventional advertising methods.

I'm not just looking forward to it, I actually took the time to build a data aggregation site around it. Behold: Cloverfield Central.
I'll have to change the name once they release it, of course. :-)

Whatever movie that is going to be, I want to see it badly. I saw the trailer a few days ago and sent it to like everyone I know, haha.

I read somewhere that it may have something to do with Gears of War and the date is related to emergence day. Sounds like a bit of a stretch.

JeffJ: The Gears of War thing has already been ruled out. Most people think that J.J. is up to something original. Doing something based on a game, Godzilla, Lost, etc. would probably ruin his reputation.

So I just saw the DVD version of the movie which was my first viewing and ummm...HOLY BALLS! Best monster movie I've ever seen without a doubt. Great pacing, great story, great emotion and great ending. I am divided on whether I want a sequel to it as it is one of those movies that would probably be ruined no matter what the sequel was.
Lesson learned: NY has crazy shit going on. Stay in Florida.

*Spoiler notice*
I thought the concept (crazy monster movie, filmed a-la-Blair-Witch) was mostly solid, let down by the actors.
I mean, I'm sure that's what everybody would be like in that sort of situation but after thirty minutes of listening to them whining, I just wanted them to die a horrible and preferably rusty-spoon-related death.
The intro part (their soppy love story) was just tragic. They loved each other and he was leaving and oh oh oh oh it was just all too much for my cold heart. Boo hoo! The party was just too much irrelevant crap, none of which I cared for.
And later on, in a situation like that, running back across Manhattan to go and get somebody who either a) should be locked up tight in the safest place they can find, or b) dead, just doesn't seem a sensible thing to do.
Halfway through, Harri (m' colleague) and I couldn't help but hypothesise how something like this would have done down in England. Perhaps it's a cultural thing (having relatives who lived through the Blitz) but in our version there was a lot less screaming, whining and bad decisions; and a lot more tea-drinking, several packs of cigarettes and a sack full of stiff-upper-lips. Londoners would have eaten that thing for breakfast. Little shits that bite? Liverpudlians bite back!
Maybe we're being a little unfair.
It was also very much in the style of Lost - a program that I love to hate. It's produced and written by the same people so this is entirely understandable, but they just take things a little too far. I'd like to clarify that but each time I try it makes no sense - perhaps I just feel they either should have shown us less of the creatures, or explained themselves a little better.
I'd give it 5/10
Nice idea - bad actors with awful background/sub-plots - needless misadventure - too much left hanging and unexplained.
And if they do make a sequal - It has to be in a different format. The whole handleld camera thing wears thin pretty fast.
