It's about that time. Every year, one hot song takes over the summer and forever identifies the year for you. Any early front runners?
For me, Kelly Rowland's "Like This" featuring Eve is hot, hot, hot right now. Can't wait to see if it takes off.

"True Love Way" or "Ragoo" by Kings Of Leon but thats for my crowd. Generally people have bad taste so I'm not even gonna guess.

A few of my current favourites are "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven, "Banquet" by Bloc Party, anything by Handsome Boy Modeling School, and "Dirty New York" by Knifehandchop.
Yeah, I'm seriously behind the times. ;-)

Songs that have a summer feel... to be honest I can't think of any ones from "now", but some ska or reggae normally cheers one up!

Sorry Ryan, but there is no chance that song will be song of the summer. Song of the summer in the hip-hop/R&B world have catchy hooks, that's what makes them songs you remember. The hook on that one just isn't there. Song of the summer won't come out till late May/early June, but if T-Pain had waited a bit before releasing this song I think he would have taken the title.
Song been out for about 6 weeks and its still the jam in Tampa.

No way you can call this yet. But my nominations thus far are:
Battles' Atlas
The Shins' Australia
Two Lone Swordsmen's Rattlesnake Daddy
I restricted my choices to tracks released this year (either on albums or as singles) to narrow it down.
I've been listening to Battles (MySpace link; the track in question happens to be on there) repetitively for a week now and they're fantastic. Math rock/post rock goodness.
The Shins because, well, The Shins, innit? Australia is just a wonderfully happy song with a brilliant video that appears to bear no relevance to the track at all. I woke up to this on Sunday morning with the sun shining on my face and it made me smile.
Finally, Two Lone Swordsmen, my wildcard vote. It's been getting a lot of play time, and the new record is awesome.

Oh, I forget one.
Tobias Froberg's cover of What Goes Around, originally by Justin Timbercake.
No seriously. It's a wonderful cover, and it ain't Summer without a Swede singing break-up songs originally murdered by JT. I think I read somewhere that Froberg didn't like this cover a whole lot, but I love it.

My new pick: "The Story" by Brandi Carlile.

The song you're looking for is clearly Local H's cover of Britney Spears' Toxic.

Wait. Did you mean Nickel Creek's bluegrass version of Toxic? :)

Other than Finger Eleven and Local H I don't know a single artist mentioned in this Note. I guess I need to don the turtleneck and hang out at the local Starbucks or something.

Hey you asked for the song of the summer, not which song I think deserved to be the song of the summer. I know how the masses work and the songs all of you are picking won't be it.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We should all just be safe and say "Summer Love" by Justin Timberlake.
