Today is 80s day in the Scrivs's iTunes player so I figured I would provide you with the day's top 10 80s songs accompanied with YouTube clips. If you know me you know that I'm not big on going outside of hip-hop, R&B and classical, but that doesn't mean I don't like other genres and eras. Keep in mind these are my top 10 80s songs for the day, not a definitive list that I am trying to start a debate over so just sit back and enjoy.

  1. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

  2. A-Ha - Take On Me

  3. Blondie - Call Me

  4. The J. Giles Band - Centerfold

  5. Michael Jackson - Beat It

  6. Survivor - Eye of the Tiger

  7. Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes

  8. Queen - Another One Bites The Dust

  9. Hall & Oates - Maneater

  10. Prince - When Doves Cry (Universal removed the real video)

a-ha possibly the greatest video ever!!!

And since someone is bound to post the Family Guy version of it, let me beat you to the punch.

ha I forgot about that! Great show great video, too much fun for today

You mentioned not going outside the hip-hop genre, but hey, Tom Sawyer is a classic 80's hit.

Haha, I love it.

Nice choices - here's a few of my favourites...

Soft Cell - Bedsitter...

The Specials - Ghost Town

Eurythmics - Beethoven

And finally a bit of comic relief! ;)

Aneka - Japanese Boy

The 80s produced some wonderful music, most of which has already been mentioned. But the 80s were also the decade of the one hit wonder. (I'm too lazy to find Youtube videos; my mouse batteries just ran out, so I'm trackpaddin'.)

The Vapors - Turning Japanese
Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight
Indeep - Last Night a DJ Saved my Life
EMF - Unbelievable

Not to mention people like the Weather Girls, Right Said Fred, Haddaway, Paul Lekakis, the list goes on.

I prefer

When Doves Fly is the only on that original list I would choose. Yea for <EM>Ghost Town.

Alphaville - Big In Japan:

Visage - Fade To Grey:

B movie - Nowhere girl:

I'll throw out some more to make this the epic 80s Note thread.

  • Joan Jett - I Love Rock 'N Roll

  • Madonna - Like A Virgin

  • Van Halen - Jump

  • The Police - Every Breath You Take

  • Katrina & The Waves - Walking On Sunshine

Not to be a wanker, Rich, but Rapper's Delight is from 1979, close but not yet the eighties.

jmathias: Damn it you're right! I stand corrected.

Europe - The Final Countdown

Another small set of ones I should have included the first time...

Art of Noise - Close (To the Edit)

Act - Snobbery & Decay

Depeche Mode - Behind the Wheel

Buggles - Living in the Plastic Age

OMD - Messages

Here is my top 10

Tony Basil: Hey Mickey

Adam and the Ants: Stand and delivery

Culture Club: Karma Chameleon

Dexys Midnight Runners: Come on Eileen

Madness: Our House

REM: It's the end of the world as we know it

Talking Heads: Road to Nowhere

Midnight Oil: Beds are Burning

Pop will eat itself: Can you Dig It?

Dr and the medics: Spirit in the sky

Sledgehammer has my heart. Great song and video..

Dig if you will, the picture...

I'll restrict mine to bands that I actually saw live...yeah, I'm feeling a little old right now.

Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now

Modern English - Melt With You

REM - Radio Free Europe

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday

The Clash - Rock the Casbah

Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut

Beastie Boys - Fight for Your Right

GnR - Sweet Child o Mine

Thinking about moving REO Speedwagon into the top:

Wow, I forgot all about that song. Nice choice.

Yea...I broke this one...damn it all. :)

Journey - Don't Stop Believin'

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (I'm not a Whitney fan but there's something about this song.)
