We just got home and turned it on. Looks good. The vid is seriously screwing up this note somehow.

I agree about the note Cooper, i can barely see the page!

While I'm sure the concerts were cool, I hardly see how jet set rock morons begging me to change my life and wipe my ass with 2 squares of single ply is going to change anything.

I remember reading somewhere that it would take a couple million trees planted to offset the ecological costs of the giant productions. At this point, do we really need to raise awareness? Are we all aware yet?

I think we're plenty aware of Al Gore's mission... it's just getting schooled by a pile of jet set rock stars seems to be a bit over the top to me.

Yeah, I agree that the awareness aspect of Live Earth is somewhat suspect. But I did enjoy having something to watch on a Saturday when it was around 100 degrees outside.

Didn't they do enough damage to the environment and use enough energy and natural resources by organizing, promoting, televising and actually running this whole event? It kind of shows how skewed the general perspective as to what will actually help the environment is. Hell, you're doing more for the environment by leaving your TV off and not watching the concert than allowing advertisers to make money and using energy by doing so.

Oh but Jeff... they used "sensitive" technology.

Otherwise known as, the same old crap with a fancy name to make the sheep think they're still safe.

Man, it's news to me that they were powering this venture on Steorn's free energy machine. *gasp*

Don't forget about the fact that we're being 'educated' on this topic by the people who are currently using the most energy and resources per-person on the entire planet. If you're looking at the so called carbon footprint the avg. person is around 5-7 and Madonna is well above 1,000 on her own.

We should be having a concert where we educate THEM about how to live more conservatively.

But you also have to remember that they fell paying a company to "offset" their wastefulness is somehow akin to you and me becoming hermits and disconnecting ourselves from the modern world.

i think the event did a good job at raising awareness, time will tell.

I went to a showing uptown and it seriously felt like the Church of Al Gore. I didn't stay for long.

There's a lot of negative things you can say about this but still, in the end I think people need to associate positive, enjoyable things like this with environmentalism, and to that end I think it was a success.
