- 46 - 47 meters of CDs (I don't count anymore),
- 1000 or so LPs still left (but mostly packed away),
- about 1 1/2 TB of digital files (my CD collection ripped to external USB harddisks).
What do you have?

Total Winamp files is up over 3000 now. I know my CD total is around 350. I'm a used CD buying freak.

I don't have any idea how many CDs I actually have...probably in the neighborhood of 200-250. In my iTunes library, I have over 2900 songs.

I currently have close to 1,500 CD's with an average of 12 songs per disc which have all been ripped to my MP3 file server, 8 crates of records (not sure the total number), and I have maybe 200-300 cassette tapes.
I even have a few reel to reel tapes I got from my grandparents with some Glenn Miller and the Platters...

Over 400gb on hard disk and too many CDS to mention so put all in books to save space. My husband also has a fine LP collection - not my thing but he likes them. Without my music I'd be grumpy.

Scrivs is all about digital it seems which rocks. How do you serve up your music? iPod and your computer? or do you have some uber geek stereo system connected to your home network of digital madness?
Speaking of digital, do you remember a song called Digital Display by a group called Ready for the World?
The song was all about the babes and their digits... 36-24-36... "excuse me while i play, with your digital display".
I bet Tyme remembers this song since we seem to be close in age.

1 bedroom apartment so I don't need anything fancy. Just got my 600 watt 5 speaker setup on the G5 and that's all the goodness I need.

CDs - close to 2500
LPs - 25
Cassettes - 2
Digital files - 100
I am a collector so I need the actual product and the physical experience of searching record stores. My CD count is a guess, I could be a little over.
As far as digital files, most are old NWOBHM singles that were posted from various NWOBHM forums. The 7" & 12" vinyl have all but disappeared but the music has been preserved by some hardcore collector's. Those files have been burned to CD, transferred to my Dell DJ 30, and deleted from my harddrive when the actual vinyl or official CD release is acquired.

Ha, I have hundreds of LPs (including 78s and 45s). A large project is digitizing the LPs that are not collector's items.
No idea how many CDs. With my move coming up I'll get a better handle on it but I'd save over 1500.

What I miss about the music purchases of today is the artwork. With LPs you got a really big piece of artwork with it, the sleeve.
With CDs you still get a little booklet but it's not the same as having as 12x12 picture or artwork from LPs.
Maybe that's one of the reasons people collect them now is for the large cover art?

Yeah, I read in Wired about a company that was trying to get the artwork back into digital files, because that is what a lot of people are missing. It simply gives an album much needed personality of its own. I know a ton of people that don't associate albums with the songs, but what was on the cover. When I think of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" I can see MJ in his white suit laying on the ground.
He was pimpage back then.

Michael Jackson's Thriller, now that was and still is a good album.
To bad he became Wacko Jacko and went off the deep end.
At least we have the memories of Michael in his glory days.
I heard a rumor that a new album is in the works. Should be interesting to see if it happens.

Yeah Tyme was telling about his new album on Thursday and honestly I'm not looking forward to it at all. After Man In The Mirror, the MJ dynasty died for me. Now back on topic.
I lost my digital music collection twice in the past due to user error, so I should easily be over 6000 songs by now. I love a variety of music, but when it comes to looking for it I'm pretty narrow and stick with R&B, Hip-Hop and Classical.

I have well over 3000 CD's. I lost count after 3000. This includes ones I've bought and ones I've burned. I have around 200 LP's. And right now I only have around 200 songs on my computer. I just moved back though so give me another month and I'll have a couple thousand again.

I have about 300 cds, and maybe 35 GB of music (mostly hip hop). I had about 65 GB but accidentally deleted the folder, luckily I had about half of it backed up.
I'm working on digitizing my cds.

I'm happy that I'm not the only one who has (perhaps too) many CDs and digital files. It's comforting, although that doesn't save me any space. ;)

deus62: I'm thinking that most of the modern day internet surfers like us have a boat load of digital music files. I mean, who doesn't enjoy music? Music brings back memories, takes us back to days gone by, helps us feel better or even get mad to want and go kick some ass... yeah!
When I get fired up, I break out some Pantera, Anthrax or early Metallica and just bang my head all around.
\m/ long live rock n roll!

There is a great site for indexing this kind of thing: discogs.com
My collection has close to 1,200 items in it (CD, vinyl, and "official" digital releases).

--30,000 tracks in iTunes
--5000 pieces of vinyl (about 30% of what I've collected over the past 20 years)
--1000 cassettes
--1000+ CD's
I've been doing this for awhile and no sort of therapy has helped. :)
