I'm not sure if this has been written about before here on 9rules, but I've had this little technique bookmarked for a few months and thought people here might appreciate it :)
Basically there are a bunch of cryptic things you can drop into a Google query to make Google do something in addition to just searching for music. For example, check out the following query:
intitle:"index.of" (mp3) lil.wayne
You're telling Google to look for open directories (the "index.of") that contain MP3 files (in the parenthesis) that hit on the query of lil.wayne. The period in between index.of and lil.wayne is basically a wildcard that will disregard any words in between.
It works best if you just do 2 words on the end to maximize results. Sometimes you end up with junk, but then sometimes you'll hit pages like this lol.

Amazing how many open directories there are, which I am sure are being used for FTP trading and what not. Definitely a good way to find quality, legal (cough) music.

search for multiple file types by inserting a pipe in the parentheses
(mp3|m4a|ogg|flac|wma)etc.
the trick works for video files and other document formats as well.

nifty little search string... And then again, you're helping MPAA/RIAA find new (simple) ways to taking people down for stupid reasons :p
I like it though :D

That's a lot better way than I had before. I would just search something like: yomomma.mp3 hoping to get a hit. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
Thanks!

Go to jimmyr.com and use their search engine at the top of the page for MP3 searches -- they already have the search algorithm worked out for you, so you don't have to type anything in other than the song or artist!! :)
Not to mention the fact that it's a great website for news...
