I was reading my feed reader and stumbled upon how to grab 5 free songs from iTunes and figured what the heck. Now that I have 5 free songs, I have no idea what to get. I already have everything I want.
I already have my must have songs, such as People of the Sun by Rage Against The Machine, Manifest Destiny by Guster, By Starlight by The Smashing Pumpkins, Going The Distance by Cake, Dreamgirl by Dave Matthews Band, Allison by Elvis Costello, Let Go by Frou Frou, Chariot by Gavin DeGraw, Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap, Sweetness and 23 by Jimmy Eat World, and there's a whole bunch more but those are my main staples.
At any rate, I want to know what your must have songs are. It'll help me out with finding my 5 free ones.

Tough question. I'm limiting mine to five, so here are my 5 must-have songs at the moment:

Certainly a hard choice but I've picked 5 good tracks from a variety of genres and one plug for my own band... because I can. ;)
All links lead directly to the iTunes Store

Thanks guys. I'll check all of your choices out once I get time to open up iTunes and browse around. Or rather, once my computer stops hating me and decides to not run slow. For some reason, my computer hates Photoshop.

dont forget to switch to iTunes Plus for the non-DRM store. i wasted 2 of my 5 song credits on the DRM'd ones only to realize they were avail w/o DRM. song credits are no good for upgrading from DRM'd to non-DRM'd. that is of course if the song you want is avail via iTunes Plus.
heres what i snagged for my 5 free songs (by no means is this a "must have" list):
Van Hunt - "Lowest 1 of My Desires"
Van Hunt - "Turn My TV On"
Van Hunt - "Lowest 1 of My Desires" [iTunes Plus]
Van Hunt - "Turn My TV On" [iTunes Plus]
Britney Spears - "Gimme More"
hey, i was curious.... :p

So how do I scam these free songs too?
I'd have to say my five "must have" songs for the moment are these:
Ben Folds Five "Mess"
Grizzly Bear "Colorado"
Kings of Leon "Knocked Up"
Broken Social Scene "Fire Eye'd Boy"
Rza "My Lovin' Is Digi" (didn't see that one coming, DIDJA?)

Definitely check out some Elliott Smith if you haven't already. He's got dozens of great songs.
Just a few.
Edit: For some more uh, cheery songs, I recommend The Rapture. A lot of the songs from their Pieces Of The People We Love are great.
The Knife, too... I could go on and on.

@jensized
I went to Facebook, joined a group called "Ticketmaster Live" and got a code for 5 free tracks that way. :)

Wow, I don't recognize any songs from above.
Well, I like Kemopetrol's or Zero 7's music. So if you'd like to listen to some fresh European sounds check them out. Their latest albums are more "pop-like", but their early work is more original.
