And, come on, he's sexy. We all know it.

Ryan and I have similar taste in men apparently, the difference being I'm straight.

That's what they all say before a couple beers. :)

LOL--or more like ROFLMAO!

I don't even watch AI, but THAT was funny! Yes, BAD Ryan... :) Thanks for the laughs, I needed them today!

» What Movie(s) Made You Cry?  ...  Last Reply: 10 months ago by seopher.

LOTR--I cry over the entirety of the many multiple endings of LOTR, especially the part where Arwen goes to Aragorn and you see Elrond in the background almost shedding a tear himself.

Stepmom--I can't watch that one too often, because I'm a total mess at the end, no matter how many times I've seen it. Damn, just thinking about the whole idea of it, leaving my kids behind and dying, is making me cry now, and I'm not even watching it.

Those two get me bad every time, but there's a whole host of others, like Titanic, Independence Day, and Somewhere in Time that cause a tear here and there. I cry at the drop of a hat anyway, over books, music (think "The Song Remembers When" by Trisha Yearwood; I almost had to pull over if I heard it in the car because I'd be bawling), movies, whatever.

I've never seen The Notebook. Maybe I won't go there, because if it makes all the men cry, I'd probably just die from it.

» LOLcats  ...  Last Reply: 12 months ago by Scoopersmith.

I think they're funny, and I didn't torment cats as a youth...

My husband and I just spent 10-15 minutes laughing at LOLcats on icanhascheezburger, and for what it's worth, he's only a "cat person" by default (as in, he loves me so he perforce loves my cats), and I find it much funnier than things like Monty Python, or the Three Stooges, or any other slapstick, completely stupid "comedy" out there. Just my weird sense of humor, I guess.

» Is there a music artist/group worth this kind of money?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by loism.

Ryan, I'd have considered $162.50 for prime seats for Celine, IF she was playing in a decent venue with good acoustics. She's not, and the prime seats are the ones that are $360+ each over here.

I do see your point about passions. And, while I like music a lot and Celine is one of my favs, $360 buys one hell of a lot of fabric! :)

» Is there a music artist/group worth this kind of money?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by loism.

My daughter wanted to see Hannah Montana. I told her she could go but she'd have to use her own money. Funny...she didn't want to go "that" bad anymore lol.

My, isn't it funny how the tune changes if they have to use their own money for something extravagant? From the look of ticket prices these days we're probably going to have the same conversation soon with my oldest daughter (15); she thinks it's criminal that she hasn't been to a concert yet. I think she's too young, especially to go with friends so as soon as a group she likes (that her dad can tolerate, since he'll have to take her) shows up in Stuttgart, it'll be time for that conversation about using her her own money.

» Is there a music artist/group worth this kind of money?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by loism.

@Ozone, even if I had that kind of money, it would still bother me to shell out that kind of money to see anybody in concert.

@jensized, I was just sitting here wondering if it's the artists who are actually demanding/getting this kind of cash, or if it's the recording companies and sponsors that are driving up the price. Like all this controversy about paying artists for their music directly and cutting out the middlemen. Makes me wonder if Celine Dion really thinks she's worth it.

» "If they just want the single, they gotta get the album."  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by shadowsun7.

That attitude is a guaranteed way to NOT get ANY of my money at all. And yes, is this guy too young to remember 45's?? Damn, I feel old.

Is there a music artist/group worth this kind of money?

Music Community — Posted: Nov. 20, 2007  ...   Last By: loism @ 1 year ago

I'd love to see Celine Dion in concert, and I was in Vegas while she was on stage there, but couldn't afford it at the time. Anyway, now she's coming to Stuttgart next June, so I take a look at the ticket prices and availability, and see that even the lowest priced tickets are 90 EUROS!!! They go up from there to a top price of 250 EUROS!!! Pardon me, but WTH? That's over $360 per ticket for the "best" seats, which are probably down on the floor standing. I think not.

Two or three years ago (I think), we considered a weekend trip to Paris to see Madonna, but I think the whole trip, with gas and an over night stay somewhere, was going to run $600-700, and we decided not to do it, telling ourselves that if she was in Stuttgart, we'd go. The tickets for Madonna couldn't possibly have been as expensive as the ones for Celine Dion are now (the math just doesn't add up), even figuring that the dollar was stronger back then. All in all, it's my husband who is the big Madonna fan anyway, so it wasn't too hard a decision for me.

Even last year, I paid to see the Backstreet Boys and the tickets weren't anywhere close to that kind of money, and Celine Dion is playing in the same venue next June. Granted, fangirl that I am, Celine Dion probably puts on a much better show than the Backstreet Boys, but still. The venue is a sports stadium for goodness sakes, and the acoustics suck rocks through a straw. I might consider (consider!) paying half that price if she was playing someplace decent, like the nice concert hall downtown where Yanni played about 12 years ago when he was here.

So my question, dear 9rules friends, is: is there anyone out there who you would pay that kind of money to see in concert? If so, who, and why and under what conditions, if any?

@Erin, I can barely fit one of my cats in my lap, let alone two!

@Rich, "probably?" If you're not sure, that's a bit scary... ;)

@Ollie, isn't it great to look young enough to get carded? I think the last time it happened to me, I was about 32! Now I just feel good when someone calls me "miss" instead of "m'am!"

@karmatosed, I have a cat that used to ride on my shoulder all the time when he was tiny, and now it's just impossible and he's not at all happy in my lap! Great mental pic of you and the dog!

I'm beginning to think we're all chained to our computers...though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised!

Anybody else with a caricature??

» Random Song In The Head  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by estarla.

I don't usually notice if songs pop into my head spontaneously, I guess, but maybe it's because they're coming from inside my head, instead of being put there by someone else. This note makes me think of times my husband will start singing some snippet of a song that has absolutely nothing to do with anything at that moment, and then that song is stuck in my head. It drives me nuts, really! I keep telling him to keep his songs to himself and sing them inside his own head, but he never does. Most of the time he doesn't get the words quite right either, which is even worse. Sometimes it's even commercial jingles from the 70's, too. UGH!

So I have my own song that I call up at moments like that so I can purposely get it stuck in my head, and get his song out:

At one time, there was a meaning behind this song for me, but at this point it's past history. It's still the one that pops into my head when I need to get something else out though.

Paint a caricature...of YOU!

Humor Community — Posted: Oct. 12, 2007  ...   Last By: dreamweaver @ 1 year ago

What would a caricature of you look like? I thought of this after I posted my answer to the Halloween costume note. I'll revise what I said there a bit:

I have snippets of thread and bits of fabric in my hair and hanging off my clothes, my scissors hanging from a leash around my neck, straight pins hanging out of my mouth, thimbles on my fingers, a goofy bunny slipper on one foot with the other bare (can't sew at the machine with a shoe or slipper on the foot that controls the machine), and one arm full of chocolate and fabric and quilting supply catalogs, with a couple of PHP books tucked under the other arm and one hand holding the phone to my ear, and I'm staring at my computer monitors with Outlook on the one screen and 9rules on the other.

That about sums it up. Your turn!

» Worst Movie You Ever Saw?  ...  Last Reply: 8 months ago by archangelchuck.

The only movie I've ever watched that I felt was a complete waste of the 2-3 hours of my life was Beyond Borders. Hated it, despite the fact that I like Angelina Jolie.

Now, you probably need to take that with a small grain of salt, considering that I watch movies maybe 6-10 times a year, and I usually watch something I've already seen and know I love because I'm not willing to risk that 2-3 hours being a waste of time. I like a sure thing. In other words, my basis for comparison is small and undoubtedly skewed.

And I did like Independence Day! Make of that what you will.

» How many songs do you have in your iTunes library?  ...  Last Reply: 10 months ago by Johnny.

5,034, but a great portion of that isn't mine, it's my husband's, and my daughter has some in there too. Kind of a family sort of thing going on over here. On my iPod, I have 912 songs, but that's not the whole of it really, "it" being the music collection, since I've still got a huge number of CD's that need to be ripped into iTunes...but it's not high on the list at the moment.

» New World's Ugliest Dog  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by csw.

Some of those other dogs are uglier. Pee Wee Martini would have gotten my vote, for sure, with that face. Interesting that they are all "hairless" breeds, which definitely contributes to the ugliness factor, for me. I'd never have a Sphinx cat either, but if it was a choice between the cat or one of these ugly dogs, I'd take the cat. Sorry, but cats and dogs should definitely have fur, in my book!

Sometimes I look in every mirror I pass to remind myself how good I look.

LOL Scrivs! You sound like my 15 year old daughter who has a huge mirror fixation! She was in the back seat of the Mustang over the weekend (a rare occurrence, as she's usually up front) bemoaning the lack of a mirror on the back of the front seat headrest. Good thing we have quite a few in the house!

Sometimes I wish 9Rules notes could auto-complete my XHTML tags like TopStyle does.

Edit: Is it possible to program it to do that??

Sometimes I spend too much time on 9Rules.

Yeah, that's one BIG reason I just don't do movies in the theater anymore--people who won't be polite and shut up. I have two choices where I live for English language movies: the local English language theater run by the Germans in town or the theater that's run by the military exchange service on post. The military theater is the worst for people talking and letting their kids scream and kick the back of your chair and whatnot (and these kids are usually in movies that contain subject material that is way too mature for them anyway). For some reason, it's worse than the public theaters in the States (at least the last one I went to three years ago, anyway). It's just too annoying and rude to bother with.

+1 for Paycheck

@Erin, maybe no one made fun of you for that, but they surely will laugh at me for Sliding Doors. It's about the only other movie that I could think of in this "scratch your head" category that I actually liked enough to finish watching at all...

» Top ten favorite films  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Ozone42.

LOTR
Star Wars (IV, V, and VI ONLY!)
Indiana Jones (1 & 3, I'm not much for 2)
Lara Croft Tomb Raider
Broken Arrow
Pirates of the Caribbean
Dangerous Liasons
Somewhere in Time
Pretty Woman
Runaway Bride
Sliding Doors

Oops, sorry that was at least one too many, but those are just my faves of what's sitting here in my studio/office, and what I throw in the player to "watch" when I'm sewing. That's about the only time I do movies anyway, and I never watch anything new, because I can only listen while I'm sewing and peek up at the good parts. If I watch something I haven't seen before, then I get distracted and can't get anything else done.

» Star Wars Episodes 1-3 just suck  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by dreamweaver.

Yup, 1-3 completely sucked for me. I regularly watch 4-6 over again (just like Indiana Jones, and esp. LOTR!) but SW 1-3 stay on the shelf. I've kind of held that if the actors hadn't been SOOOO bad, I could deal with the rest of it because it IS Star Wars, after all. That's got to be the worst acting I've ever seen, really.

That being said, I'm sure somebody will come back at me with mega examples of worse acting than SW 1-3, but I don't watch THAT many movies, so there it is.

Barbie dolls and books, lots and lots of books. I think I read more than played with toys.

And calling Lego blocks "Legos" is a bit like calling a tissue "kleenex." That's just what people do. Is "Lego" in the dictionary, and if it is, what's the plural form? Kinda like having two mouses (mice?) for the computer: what's the correct plural form?
