Had the Houston Texans on my mind today, and the song they use as their intro at home games has been in my head all day...
I find that any song that has an honest, real and raw emotion to it that I can relate to in a strong way at the moment affects me at the goosebump (and yes even to the nads sometimes) level. As with Ozone, it's usually those songs that build up out of nowhere. it can be anyhing from opera, to classical to metal...as long as it's real. Most always though, it's really old school blues by cranky old men who know how to really rock emotion with their musical stories.
What's your most favorite song in the world for the situation you find yourself right now, at this moment? If what you are doing right now were a movie scene, what would the background song be?
Right now, I'm playing beachball volleyball in the living room with my young son, while my baby girl watches Blue's Clue's in the family room and my wife is surfing her facebook page.
Right now, I'm just an ordinary average guy.
How about you?
That's the whole point, they were big enough to experience...to look deep into the cover art, gawk at amazement at the inside covers, read the liner notes and the lyrics...
It took all of 2 seconds to rip the shrink wrap off as opposed to the 1.64 hours it takes now to get all the security crap off.
You truly missed out on some days junior. I rejoice in my old age and old school ways.
It's not often that I watch Grey's Anatomy, but I was bored the other night and hung out and watched. Near the end of the show, they did a montage and played this totally kick ass song...
I'm now on my own quest to find out more about this dude -- his voice rocks, (kind of a cross between Lenny Kravitz and Cee-Lo) and I'm totally frustrated that he's not on iTunes yet.
Story wise, Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith. For me, the whole story is pretty much summed up and tied together nicely in those two.
Experience wise, gotta go with the first (A New Hope). Went to go see it on my 14th birthday with my friends. It was all magical back then in the day.
Not cry outright, but well up a bit...
9 times out of 10, it's the musical score that's occurring during the scene that gets me.
If I found some boy(s) dancing like that with my little girl, it be the last form of expression they ever do.
This isn't artistic expression, this is vulgar dry humping by horny teens set to music.
Hell, if I did that with my wife of 12 years and posted in on YouTube, I'd still get my ass kicked by her family, if for nothing more, disrespecting her in public.
I also find that offense to this is no way prudish. There's a difference in being a prude, and having some horny kid throw bullshit like this at you under the guise of 'art' or 'dance'.
Call this dance, Prelude to a Rape.
Well, except on youtube.
"We're sorry, this video is no longer available"
What I find more troubling is that you apparently visit websites designed for 12 year-old teenage girls entitled OMG!
I was feeling nostalgic today and was thinking of writing a post about forgotten memories and songs. This one came up in my mind...so many memories
The specific memory that this song ignites is remembering the twin red-haired girls in one of my classes in the 8th grade. I don't remember what the class was, but I'll never forget those girls.
Jiminy. It was my first memory of Texas after moving from Florida. I remembered thinking that I was going to like it here.
So maybe I'm just a white chicks and gang signs noob, but what does the one that seems to be predominate in that video mean? Many of them have their two middle fingers crossed with the index and pinkie fingers up.
Actually, the hand shake where it's a traditional shake and then the palms slide out to a finger lock is pretty old school -- I remember doing that in the early 80's (yeh, I'm older than I look ;)). The videos Tyme posted here, look more like these guys spent too much time watching their sisters do that hand slapping thing..."Ma-ry, Ma-ry, quite con-tra-ry...
This has been stuck in my head all day -- I have no clue as to why though.
The very first reality show I can remember is the original "Scared Straight" in 1978.
Although I'm not a big fan of Penn, the trailer for Into the Wild looked pretty good. Might have to check that out.
Glad I'm not the only one annoyed by Dane Cook. I can watch his HBO specials for only so long before I've got to move on.
I just caught a brief moment of the Prime Time Emmys tonight. I guess you can finally put a plug in the web ++ / social media movement, because if anything killed it, it was this broadcast.
Here's a few of the low points...
"In the round" staging brought out feelings of transparency, community and a social vibe.
There was a rant by Lewis Black on how television executives muck up the experience by crowding out the story with bottom third promos for upcoming shows, ads, tickers... (NOTE: While I agree with his sentiment, I couldn't help but stop thinking this was just merely fodder for YouTube.)
The dude from Heros sitting in front of a Mac laptop and chatting live with Tom Anderson from MySpace, who then announced Al Gore and the CEO of current.tv
Finally the kicker, and the point where I couldn't take anymore...while announcing some category, the cameras took over the shoulder shots of different people in the audience watching on all the different devices available today.
Blech.
I used to do a series on my blog called rocksymphony weekends, where I would summarize the week with a video of a rock band backed by an orchestra. There were some good ones out there. I haven't done one in a while, might need to get back to it -- if I can find some more videos.
I like the whole sweet and sour vibe that it gives off. I've always been somewhat of a rock head (although I go the whole gamut of genres -- as long as it has raw emotion that I can feel, than I'm a fan), so what do I do? I marry a band / orchestra teacher.
I've always loved the whole guitar rock / symphony orchestra combo thing. November Rain has always been one of my faves.
I'm sure that breaks one of the man rules.
Uncool -- totally uncool. Slightly funny, but totally uncool.
Supergirl
Blair Witch Project
Planet of the Apes
This video just kind of sums up the whole web++ / community experience thus far. Cant' wait to see where we go from here.

...yeh, it's been a while since my formative years.
Actually that thing resembles Gumby more than a Gummi, so that might explain the "y".
"Shining Star" by Earth, Wind & Fire
What's the most recent song you've heard that touched your soul on a deep level?
For me, it's "No More" by The Blind Boys of Alabama from their Spirit of the Century album.
The emotion packed in this just sends chills down the spine for me.
Shut down the Internet huh?
That'll be a shame about his online store and forum and mobile ringtones and wallpaper and videos and fan club login.

"...Actually, I think it's based on the Tokyo metro map...
Makes sense, since the design credit goes to Information Architects Japan.
There's a cool write-up on their site about the map, and some of the inside jokes that are contained in it.

Edit: Oops. Guess I didn't notice the previous link to the very same iaj page. Sorry Estarla (and Rich).

I'll see it, but I'm going to wait it out a bit (maybe a couple of weeks). I'll do the Imax version too...looks like an Imax kinda show.
