I think 30 Rock's appeal vs "Studio 60" is its credibility – it actually features actors and writers from the show it's meant to be parodying. Tina Fey has said that it's very autobiographical (albeit probably loosely).

Oli, that's interesting. I never thought Studio 60 was very funny. It had a little bit of that ever-present mild humor that Aaron Sorkin is known for, but it rarely made me laugh. That may be because, having seen almost everything Aaron Sorkin has ever written, I'd already heard all his jokes. That may also be why the preponderance of speedy dialog struck me more as "classic Sorkin" than anything terribly good or interesting.

30 Rock, on the other hand, is so completely absurd that I can't help laughing at it. The characters are so over the top that the jokes seem to write themselves. I suppose I could see why people would hold that against the show, but I certainly don't.

I do not know why people seem to "get" 30 Rock more than Studio 60.

Everybody I know whose seen both sees 30 Rock as a cheap and lesser imitation of Studio 60. It doesn't have anywhere near the same level of comedy or speedy dialogue.

I'm not saying they could replicate their better points onto a new season even if they wanted to... but I'd happily take one episode of Studio 60 over every episode of 30 Rock.

Perhaps it's an English thing.

Love this show and Tina Fey. I just got into it this season so I think I'm going to buy the first on DVD. Or maybe steal it from the internet ;)

I caught some episodes on Hulu. I dug it, but I'm not much of a TV person so haven't watched that much of it. Still, seems like a winner.

I just got onto it a couple weeks ago and admittedly it is one of the better comedies on television right now. Tina Fey holds it all together. There should be an effect called the Tina Fey Effect where you aren't attracted to something until you are exposed to it over and over again.

Lol david, what I meant to say was that Studio 60 wasn't a very funny show. It's ironic if you think about it. TV shows have to be entertaining as well.

I agree it's a good and funny show. But I think Studio 60 was killed by its own faults.

Has anyone watched this before? Funny as shit and the reason why Studio 60 was never really that much of a success.
