Why Do I Like the Show "Cops?"

Ever since Cops came out I have been drawn to it like a moth to a lightbulb. My wife tells me it sucks, that's it's just a bunch of trashy people getting what they deserve, yet still I watch it when I can (3 kids and a wife means I don't always have the remote).
I guess a better question for you all would be: what is the appeal of this "reality" show? People have been doing ride-alongs for years, is this any different?
I think it might have something to do with the same reason I like the show DEXTER. have you seen that one? Sorry for the ramble ... what do you think about shows like these?

I don't look at reality shows often (I haven't been watching much TV at all lately) and I'm not sure why. I'm not opposed to them...I'm not sure why none of them grabbed my interest.

My wife loves it, and I call it her "white trash show." Hahaha. Admittedly, it's amusing at times, but it just makes me too angry and depressed at our society as a whole and at the fact that people like that not only exist, but are reproducing! Argh!
That's why I can't watch Cops. ;p
