Hey, (First post!)
I run a small anime night in Sydney and we are currently watching Bleach... but I'm looking at getting into Naruto. Is it aimed at kids? as the age group of our club is twenties.

Naruto?

If you like long winded animes that never end. Sure. Seriously though, like Bleach, Naruto is neverending and there are so many filler episodes, it's not funny anymore.

If you want to introduce people to anime, I think it's much better to do the standard 13 episode or 24-26 episode animes to get people going. I'm part of the Anime Club at my university (which incidentally is also in Australia) and that's how we expose people to animes. Pick ones they can sit back and enjoy, not overburden themselves with.

I've got the feeling that Naruto is aimed at the tween set (say, 9-13); most of the kids I hear talking about it are about that age. from what I've seen of it, I find Naruto to be slow and lamentably emo. not that there's anything wrong with being emo, it's just not what I want out of anime—which is more action, humor, imagination and creativity, and less posturing and melodrama. it sometimes makes me think of Dragonball Z; both seem to share the same sorts of long, drawn-out fight scenes where the opponents end up looking more constipated than anything.

that being said, maybe I just haven't watched enough of either of the above. I've watched Bleach too, and wasn't terribly impressed, though there were some good parts to it. My favourite anime so far would have to be One Piece; I wouldn't mind actually renting DVDs to watch if they're available around here.

hello~

firstly i think Naruto is a great funny anime, but after awhile watching it, it is not that funny anymore, as the story goes darker and much more serious.

Nartuo is a bit more unqiue than Dragonball Z in the sense that it feels like the creators are trying to grow the show with their audience. Dragonball was always meant for the kiddies and adults who just like silly action non-stop, while Naruto started off the same way the show continues to get darker and darker, like it is maturing as the audience matures. Still hard to get people into something when there are over 200 episodes to show with no end in sight.

I thought Naruto was awesome at first - with interesting back stories and a rich, fascinating. I've stopped watching the anime some time back though and concentrated on the manga.

It's become more serious and I enjoy that, it just seems like lately it's been dragging itself out and lost some of its previous sparks (although it still has its seriously cool moments).

Its like dragonball with ninjas. It seems to be catching on more than dbz back in its day though.

I watched about 6 episodes before realizing how terribly boring it was

Like almost all Shonen animes, Naruto is aimed at about 12 yo Japanese boys. That generally means it fits well with 16-24 year old American boys ;-)

It is very drawn out, not much happens in an episode. There are some really good characters, and the overall plot is pretty cool, but it's a big time investment. I'd almost recommend watching at 2x speed or more to really enjoy it.

Waiting for those cool moments to happen though feels like you're waiting for paint to dry. Its not that it's boring, it's just...it's not for people who are really impatient.

Come on...5 episodes for a 10 minute fight? Could it be any more dull than that?

The anime starts out pretty well, in spite of the many extended flashbacks and the fights that drag on forever. Even worse, the fillers are horrible, and span over a year. It might still be worth watching the first few seasons, at least up to the end of the chuunin exam.

With that said, the manga is absolutely fantastic, as it is free of all of the problems of the anime. With no extra flashbacks or drawn out fights, the story seems much tigher and more exciting.

I gotta admit that there were a lot of funny moments in Naruto. Like in the first couple of episodes where he pulls a prank on the old man ninja. The anime's not too too bad. Fillers are bad but the regular writers aren't responsible for them.

i've seen Naruto.

the 1st few episodes are great but then they just keep doing missions and stuff like that so it doesn't really matter whether u seen them. its very different than episodes like Yu Yu Hakusho or Dragonball. Dragonball is constantly on the search for the dragonballs and not watching them means u wouldn't know how they get the balls etc. leter on Naruto stops around episode 20 plus and then we have Naruto Shippuden which fast forwards time about 2 and a half years. this is where u have to start seeing every episodes but don't worry cause its now only at episode 30 i think.

i am currently seeing Bleach, whenever i have the time and like naruto, it has lots of episodes and maybe they just keep doing missions like naruto so that really takes the fun out of it. i'm not really sure how i'll response to it but i'll let u noe after i'm done with it. =D

Like most anime it is really a matter of taste. I like it, and I like bleach. But I also enjoy Full Metal and Claymore.

This is very true, although I am 26. Naruto, for me is fun, I have fun watching it. Is it going to win any award anytime soon? No, but it is entertaining.

Ahh, Naruto. I've stopped reading somewhere between Sai and refinding Sasuke (subtle plot hints, nevermind them), although I occasionally check up on the finer points of the current story. Quite a few characters have been killed off, and even more have been introduced.

I would say this: read the manga. Don't watch it. The manga is great, it is concentrated, has good storytelling, and it gives you a wonderful cast and a world you just want to know more about. This wide-eyed wonder does fade a little in season 2, (where it's mostly fighting, fighting and more fighting), but the backstories and the relations between the nin are engrossing. There are a lot of patterns in it, if you care to look - Kakashi and Jiraiya and Naruto all have similarities in their relationships with their peers. There's always the strong, advanced fighter, and then there's the immature, rebellious friend.

Wonderful fodder for making you go wow.

I took your advice and picked up the manga Naruto vol.1 yeah it's pretty fun... probably wont be bothered with the anime version
