The first episode (which was a pilot episode) was pretty good, especially for a pilot. The second episode wasn't so great - and that is when I started to hear all of the 'it should be cancelled' chatter on the Interwebs.

Last night though, Cavemen was pretty good. I think the series has potential and could be really funny. I hope it is given enough time to get a rhythm and find its place.

What do you think?

I really need to see this. Is there going to be a rerun time?

I haven't seen it. I don't want to see it. I wish it would have never been made. I have zero desire to ever see it.

peroty: Don't hold back now - let us know how you really feel. ;)

I haven't seen it, and have no interest in it.

The Geico ads don't do anything for me, either.

@cdevroe: hahaha

I hate the cavemen. They seem like unfunny, rehashed Encino Men! They're a TV show created from an advertisement. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to make a 30 minute show out of a 30 second ad spot needs to have their brain removed the rest of the way. Clearly it's already most of the way there.

Not that I have strong feelings about them or anything. ;)

I love the commercials ... hate the show. What a way to ruin - or at least damage - a classic set of TV commercials. Cancel it ...

As with any show, if it gets good ratings, it should stay on.

I for one think the idea of creating a series based on the commercials was stupid. Not only does it blur the lines between advertising and entertainment, it's only a matter of time before the characters hit the "not funny anymore" wall.

I'm sick of the gecko and the cavemen, myself. Geico's new campaign parodying "True Hollywood Story" is pretty funny though.

Really? I'd like to think that if it's a good show it should stay on. Now, I would agree that if it gets good ratings, it's more likely to stay on. But I like it when a good show--like Friday Night Lights--gets to stay on even with subpar ratings.

As to Cavemen, I've never seen it. Most reviews I've seen pan it, and I--like everyone not working for ABC--was doubtful ad characters could make a good sitcom.

Also, to anyone wanting to see it, I THINK, you should be able to stream at least the most recent episode over at ABC.com. I haven't done it but it looks like you can.

David — For a show to consistently rate well it can typically be assumed that it is good. Now, that may not always be the case – but the rating scale is obviously the networks' arbiter, considering the long list of great shows (Arrested Development, anyone?) that have been cancelled for lack of viewers.

Wow. Poor little Cavemen!

The people who wrote the Geioco ads are very talented. I especially love the tagline to the show: "cavemen are people too". I love social commentary.

@Jen:
I think we agree then. Networks use ratings to determine if a show should stay on or not, but this often means good shows get canceled.

Back on topic, I just watched an episode of Cavemen (on ABC's website), and it was better than I expected. Not the greatest sitcom ever, but not as bad as the gimmicky idea made me fear it would be. It's pretty involved in psuedo-racial issues--are cavemen like black people?--but it's actually pretty interesting and intelligent.

I miss Arrested Development.

Call me paranoid, but I'd feel a sort of betrayal to "quality tv" no matter how good it actually is if I even satisfied my curiosity by watching an episode. In short, I refuse to watch. I guess a big part of it is that I don't watch a whole lot of TV as it is so I'm selective, even discriminatingly so.

I watched it for the first time last night... for about 10 minutes... which is when my eyes and ears began to bleed... at the same time. I'm not quite sure how shows like this last more than 2 episodes, but a decent show like Studio 60 can't make it through an entire season.

I understand that they tried to capitalize on the whole funny caveman commercial idea... but the commercials were funny because they lasted 30 - 60 seconds. The entire time I watched the show I couldn't figure out what was going on. Are they really cavemen but suddenly find themselves in the future? Where did they learn to talk? What's with their obsession with frozen yogurt? Are they supposed to be social outcasts? I just don't get it...
